CareMedic's X12 5010 Position Statement
Q1 2010

On January 15, 2009, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released two final rules that will facilitate the United States' ongoing transition to an electronic healthcare environment through adoption of updated standards for electronic healthcare transactions, and finally, through the adoption of new code sets for coding diagnoses and inpatient hospital procedure codes.

We at CareMedic want to reassure you that we are taking a proactive approach to remediation to ensure compliance with the new formats. We have established a core team of representatives from our technology, product management, and client services groups to analyze your needs from both a technical and procedural perspective as we move forward with developing the required solutions.

Throughout 2009, we completed a transaction set-specific gap analysis and identified the requirements for supporting the 5010 and ICD-10 changes as a basis for our current development efforts. Because CareMedic’s numerous products and services support every phase of the revenue cycle, we are taking an enterprise approach to remediation, focusing on all HIPAA-mandated transaction sets.

Throughout 2010, we will continue to communicate at least once every quarter about our ongoing remediation plans and progress. We will also notify you of your options for scheduling testing with us as soon as it becomes available.

Both regulations are published, and may be viewed at: http://www.gpoaccess.gov/fr/browse.html.

"My staff is thrilled with the quality of the eFR and find it easy to use. One staff member said that she felt more productive on her first day in the eFR than she had for months. That's probably my favorite line! In fact, the biggest challenge that I faced was making all of the old processes disappear as fast as the staff wanted—the users were ready to completely change their processes within the first 7-10 days! I have 100% buy-in and the most satisfied staff I've seen in months, and in some cases, years."
