Sheila H. Schweitzer was elected CareMedic’s chairperson and chief executive officer in September 2004, after serving as its president and chief operating officer since March 2003. CareMedic is a leading provider of revenue cycle management technologies and services, based in St. Petersburg, Florida, with two additional Atlanta area offices. The company pioneered Medicare direct access for healthcare organizations, and offers a fully integrated product suite addressing revenue cycle management from patient access through account resolution. Previously, Schweitzer was executive vice president and chief operating officer of MedUnite Inc. MedUnite was a consortium of seven health plans—Aetna, Cigna, Wellpoint, Anthem, Oxford, Healthnet and PacifiCare—that developed a network for connecting physicians with payers to communicate health data such as eligibility, claim status, referrals, authorizations and claim submission. MedUnite was sold to ProxyMed, Inc. in December 2002. Before working for MedUnite, Schweitzer was chief executive officer of Presideo, Inc., a healthcare Internet security company. Prior to that, she was senior vice president of operations with ENVOY Corporation (now a division of WebMD), the nation’s largest healthcare transactions service company. Schweitzer holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Western Kentucky University.
Ann Huntress Lamont has been with Oak Investment Partners since 1982, and became a general partner in 1986, and a managing partner in 2006. Lamont focuses on healthcare and financial services information technology. Her more recent investments include Athena Health, American Esoterics, CareMedic, Harbor Payments, Health Dialog, Psychiatric Solutions, NetSpend, United BioSource and Vesta. Prior services investments include Odyssey Healthcare, Pacific Dental Benefits, Radiant Research and Oak Tree Health Plan/Oxford Health. Earlier in Lamont’s venture career, she developed a number of successful information technology and biopharmaceutical (Cephalon, Viropharma, Esperion) investments. Prior to joining Oak Investments, Lamont was a research associate with Hambrecht & Quist, and received her BA in Political Science from Stanford University.
Robert B. Schulz has been a partner at CB Health Ventures LLC since February 1997. CB Health Ventures is a venture capital fund focused on four primary areas- healthcare services, medical information technology, biotechnology, and genomics. Before joining CB Health, Schulz spent three years as the president and chief operating officer of Harris & Harris Group, Inc., a publicly traded venture capital fund. Prior to joining Harris & Harris Group, he spent ten years in the Insurance Group of Credit Suisse First Boston. Schulz received an MBA from Columbia University Graduate School of Business, and Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Chemical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is also a Director of Carefx Corp., Skylight Healthcare Systems, Inc., and Passport Health Communications, Inc.
Jeffrey Simpson, chairman and CEO of Guidewire Software, is responsible for overseeing the company’s corporate operations, and working closely with the board of directors and the senior management team to develop the company's business strategy. He brings a wealth of experience in enterprise software and in multiple vertical industries. Prior to joining Guidewire, Jeffrey was CEO of multiple companies, including Viewlocity, a leading provider of supply chain management solutions. He previously served as an executive vice president with i2 Technologies and as a senior vice president with Oracle, where he helped to cultivate a dramatic increase in its revenue. Prior to joining Oracle, Jeffrey spent 5 years at HBOC and 10 years at IBM.
Dennis R. Byerly has over 20 years of executive level experience providing financial management services to healthcare providers, with a focus on revenue cycle improvement. He began his business career as a Certified Public Accountant with Arthur Andersen & Co. where he served clients in the banking and the financial services industries. He later served as chief financial officer and executive vice president of BEI Holdings, Ltd., a publicly traded financial services firm. From 1987 until 1996, Byerly served as president and chief operating officer of ARTRAC Corporation, Medaphis Hospital Corporation, and Medaphis Services Corporation, all wholly-owned subsidiaries of Medaphis Corporation (a publicly traded healthcare information technology company, subsequently known as Per-se Technologies, Inc., acquired by McKesson in 2007 for $1.8 billion), which provided technology and business management services to approximately 20,000 physicians and 2,000 hospitals. From 1997 to 1999, Byerly was president and chief operating officer of MRC Group, Inc., one of the largest medical transcription service companies in the world, leading it through a strategic sale to a competitor public company just prior to consummation of an IPO. From 1999 through 2005, he was co-founder and chief executive officer of Third Millennium Healthcare Systems, Inc., a leading healthcare technology and revenue cycle management company. In September 2005, Third Millennium Healthcare merged with Caremedic Systems, Inc., to form one of the largest revenue cycle management companies in the healthcare industry. For six months after the merger, he served as president of Caremedic Systems, where he was instrumental in providing leadership for the integration of the two organizations, developing new offerings, and delivering superior revenue cycle solutions that continuously exceed client expectations. Byerly serves on several corporate Boards of Directors as well as civic and community boards. He was a Naval Aviator in the U.S. Navy and retired with a rank of Captain. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Professional Accountancy degree from Georgia State University.
Nicholas J. Preftakes is chairman and owner of Precor Equity Fund, Inc., a private healthcare, technology and real estate investment and development firm. Prior to forming Precor Equity Fund in 1989, he served five years as president of Henderson National Corporation, a 1,000 employee national commercial real estate development firm with $500,000,000 in assets. From 1979 to 1984, he was a vice president of commercial lending with two national banking concerns. Preftakes holds both a BS in Physics and an MBA in Finance from the University of Iowa.
Edward L. Samek is a private investor, advisor and independent board member. He is the former chairman and CEO of The MRC Group, a leader in providing outsourced medical transcription services, and its predecessor companies where he served from 1982 to 1998. Prior to that, he was president of Hudson Pharmaceutical Corp and president and CEO of Childcraft Education. Following graduation from Bucknell University and Columbia University Graduate School of Business, he held leadership positions at Procter & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson and Avon Products. Samek is also a Director of Alliance Imaging (NYSE:AIQ), and the following private companies: Veritext, LLC, WaterJel Products, and North American Management Corporation. In addition he serves on the following not-for-profit boards: The Wardlaw-Hartridge School, Edison, New Jersey, Friends of Acadia (the National Park), The Jackson Laboratory, and The Medical Transcription Industry Association (MTIA).
